A little about the therapist…

Robin Cooper, LCSW, M.Ed. believes that therapy is a partnership between therapist and client. Her approach often focuses on strengthening communication, boundaries, and considering personal accountability in our daily lives. She also uses mindfulness as a means to building insight into one’s mental and emotional needs, so that each individual can better understand how to meet those needs.

She believes that most of the concerns that bring us into therapy are prevalent in our daily lives, motivating a conversational approach to sessions. She also prioritizes a philosophy of healing as a continuous process of increased insight and coping, rather than an eradication of uncomfortable emotions.

Robin started her journey in sexuality education in 2005, while studying journalism at SUNY- New Paltz. She worked as a public relations intern at Planned Parenthood, wrote a sexuality education column from 2005-2010, and worked in retail positions that required educating about sexuality, pleasure, and bodies.

She attended Widener University’s dual degree program in Human Sexuality Education and Social Work from 2009-2012. During her years there, she focused her areas of study in the ways in which we are socialized around gender. In 2010, she began her clinical specialization with people who engage in nonconsensual sexual touch and intimate partner violence. She believes that the uncomfortable aspects of human sexual behavior are as pertinent to understanding human sexuality as the “fun,” “sexy” aspects.

After her graduation from Widener University, Robin continued the work of supporting individuals who engage in nonconsensual sexual touch and intimate partner violence. She has worked with both convicted and non-convicted individuals of all genders, sexualities, and ages who engage in those behaviors.

She continues to offer services to address consent and non-violence in relationships for both convicted and non-convicted individuals and their support systems. Her experiences with these populations also taught her how to incorporate advocacy in her practice with clients, which she continues to prioritize.

Over the last 10 years, Robin has also gained experience supporting individuals with non-traditional relationship structures, folks who identify as LGBTQIA+, individuals seeking Health at Every Size (HAES) oriented therapists, people who are seeking support for their dating goals, couples, and people seeking support navigating chronic sexual health concerns.

Robin is happy meet with individuals ages 15 and older.
